RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY OPENS NEW
'NEIGHBORHOOD' AT WAVERLY GARDENSA new trend-setting "neighborhood" at the Waverly Gardens senior living community at 6539 Knight Arnold Road in East Memphis will be home to independent seniors who occasionally need help with some activities of daily living.
Joseph Kennedy, president and founder of Memphis-based The Integra Companies and an owner of the property, officially dedicated the new 20-unit Arbors enhanced living neighborhood during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 197-unit property June 18.
"The Arbors was created for seniors who value their independence but require some assistance with daily tasks from time to time," he said.
Waverly Gardens offers 137 independent living and 40 assisted living apartments in studio, one- and two-bedroom configurations. The amenities package for all residents includes three daily restaurant-style meals, weekly housekeeping, scheduled transportation and a state-of-the-art emergency call system. All residents participate in an active social program,
Kennedy noted that assisted living residents occupy a special block of apartments known as The Terrace. These residents receive comprehensive assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) and 24 hour support from licensed professionals. The types of services provided include medication management and help with a variety of daily tasks, such as bathing, dressing, walking, or transferring from bed to a chair.
For Arbors residents, an independent contractor located on the property provides and charges only for the services and assistance (ADLs) requested.
Kennedy said the new Arbors neighborhood has a private entrance and a private dining area for meal service. A hospitality hostess is on duty from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help individual residents coordinate their day.
"Uniquely, our hospitality directors function like a hotel concierge, encouraging Arbors residents to participate in community activities and helping them with arrangements of one kind or another, including meal service," he said.
According to Kennedy, Waverly Gardens management has budgeted $40,000 for refurbishing apartments and common areas in the Arbors neighborhood. Monthly rentals are available for this grouping of senior apartments from a studio to a one-bedroom apartment.
The Waverly Gardens senior living apartment community is located on 11.56 landscaped acres in East Memphis at the border of Germantown. The property has 126,449-square-feet of net rental space in eight single-story buildings that are connected by enclosed hallways. Most units have screened patios and all have access to private courtyards.
"Waverly Gardens has become the value leader in the market with the most affordable senior housing rates in Shelby County. Occupancy at the property is up dramatically since its purchase by current management last summer, " he noted.
Waverly Gardens offers independent living apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom, two-bath apartments. Assisted living apartments are offered as well.
